Indian Air Force (IAF) invites application from Male and Female candidates for the course commencing in January 2014 for  Flying , Technical & Ground Duty Branches .

For Male - Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and  Permanent / Short Service  Commission in Technical and Ground Duty Branches.

For Female -   Short Service Commission in Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches.

A. No. 84 Aeronautical Engineers (84 AEC) Course (Permanent Commission)
B. No. 56 Short Service Commission (56 SSC) Course

Ground Duty Branches

Eligibility Criteria For Flying,Technical And Ground Duty Branch in AFCAT 2013

Flying Branch


(a) Age: 19 to 23 years as on 01 January 2014 .



(Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence  issued by DGCA(India) is relaxable upto 25 years i.e. born between  02 January 1989  to  01 January 1995 (Both dates inclusive).



(b) Educational Qualifications



 Graduates in any discipline from recognized university and score 60% marks aggregate. Also have   passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level OR BE / B Tech degree (Four year course) from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers .


Technical Branch


(a)  Age: 18 to 28 years as on 01 January 2014
               Born between 02 January 1986 to 01 January 1996 (both dates inclusive).

(b)  Educational Qualification
       i)Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)}.
      (ii) Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}.




Selection Procedure For AFCAT 2013



AFCAT 2013 Entrance test will be held on 24 February 2013 (Sunday)  The entrance test will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on 

1. Verbal Ability
2. Numerical Ability
3. Reasoning
4. General Awareness 
5. Military Aptitude



Once you cleared the AFCAT Entrance test you will be called for Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar or Varanasi.  

The testing would consist of three stages as given below.

(a) Stage-I Test consisting of Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing. All Stage-I qualified  candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in Stage I testing or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.

    (b)  Stage-II testing consisting of Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted on subsequent days (Four Days). 

 (c)  For Flying Branch: Candidates recommended after Stage-II testing would be administered Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) based on their choice of branch / eligibility.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, visit to IAF official website which is www.careerairforce.nic.in . Read the instructions and apply online. After filling the form note down the registration number.

NOTE - While  filling Online application, it is advisable to keep the relevant documents readily available, as details are to be filled as per matriculation & other educational certificates. Please save your recent colour passport size photograph (size 10 to 250 KB) in the computer for attaching to your Online application form.
